We believe democratic and environmental
rights are integrally connected.
Survival of life on earth hangs in the balance.
Our planet is facing overlapping environmental crises: Ecosystem collapse. Species extinction rates that far exceed natural background rates. Climate change.
We need systemic change — one that addresses root causes: legal systems and cultural barriers that have purposefully separated us from nature.
More than a decade ago, our founders worked to establish the first Rights of Nature laws in the world.
Today, we are partnering with communities, indigenous peoples and tribal nations, grassroots organizations and civil society, and governments around the globe to advance Rights of Nature legal protections, and to implement and enforce these rights.
Our Team at CDER
We are at the frontlines of fundamental change.
With our partners, our work is making the fundamental, systemic shift to new understandings, to new legal and governing structures, so that we may live in harmony with the natural world.
