On Sunday, December 13th, 2020, Mari Margil presented and participated in a panel at this year’s Bioneers Conference. In the days before the event, she was interviewed by the Bioneers organization. The interview article can be found here. Some topics discussed are Ecuador, the current climate crisis, and legal issues within the movement currently and at large. This interview is a welcome introduction to the path forward for nature’s right to exist.

Mari stated that one of the takeaways from this educational experience was “the understanding that fulfilling the human right to a healthy environment depends on the environment being healthy”. This is a profound point because humanity cannot exist unless the Earth is allowed to live and flourish as well. Our planet provides us with our needs, yet it cannot give us what it does not have. Mari includes an empowering statement on the power individuals have in the fight to protect the Rights of Nature. She argues that “people who aren’t lawyers, academics, or scientists have moved initiatives forward in their own communities and on a national level”, showing that we all have a place in this movement.
