The Assembly NC: Changing A River’s Course

Work on behalf of the rights of nature was the focus of a recent news article in The Assembly NC.

Journalist Barry Yeoman writes of the efforts of Crystal Cavalier-Keck and other community organizers seeking to protect the rights of the Haw River Watershed in North Carolina. Working with them, CDER’s Thomas Linzey drafted a model bill called the Rights of the Haw River Ecosystem Act to protect the river which faces significant threats.

“I think it’s the last hope of this place, to actually protect what needs to be protected,” Linzey explains. “Unless humanity is able to redefine their relationship to the natural world, we’re all fried.”
