April 2021: Now available in our video section or directly on our YouTube channel is our latest Rights of Nature 101: An Introduction to the Rights of Nature. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the Rights of Nature movement, and how to implement it in your own town or city. It focuses on the concept of legally enforceable Rights of Nature currently underway, as well as the history of their development since the beginning of the movement.

The webinar focused on the first Rights of Nature law passed in Canada, to protect the MagPie/Meteshekau Shipu River. Our event included two very special guests:

  • Yenny Vega Cardenas, a Canadian lawyer who helped to draft local laws recognizing rights for the MagPie/Muteshekau Shipu River in Quebec in collaboration with the Innus Council of Ekuanitshit and the Minganie Regional County Municipality and

  • Pier-Olivier Boudreault is a professional biologist, working as the director of conservation for the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society – Quebec section.
