This free, one-hour training will focus on the concept of legally enforceable Rights of Nature, and will trace the development of Rights of Nature laws and court decisions around the world. This will include efforts currently underway across the United States and around the globe to enact and enforce local and national laws recognizing rights of ecosystems and nature.
Special Guest for April 8th Rights of Nature Webinar: First Rights of Nature Law Passed in Canada, to protect the MagPie/Meteshekau Shipu River – Yenny Vega Cardenas, a Canadian lawyer who helped to draft local laws recognizing rights for the MagPie/Muteshekau Shipu River in Quebec in collaboration with the Innus Council of Ekuanitshit and the Minganie Regional County Municipality. Yenny will talk about the work that led to the laws, and what the laws do; and she’ll be available for question/answer during the Webinar.
This training will feature a presentation by our staff, and will include time for questions and discussion. It is intended for communities and groups in the U.S. interested in learning about the Rights of Nature movement, and how to implement it in their own town or city.
Free of charge. Donations are welcomed and appreciated!
The training will be held by Zoom.
