Virginia

The Center for Democratic and Environmental Rights is assisting our partner group, the Virginia Network for Democracy and Environmental Rights (VNDER), to advance the rights of nature and secure democratic home rule rights within Virginia counties, cities, and towns. 

Of particular concern to VNDER are proposals for new landfills in rural parts of the state, as well as proposals for new pipelines and other industrial infrastructure. With CDER’s help, the group has drafted several Right to Clean Water laws which are awaiting action by county elected officials.
